A Google Study: Organic Traffic Is Not Cannibalized by PPC Ads

Just a week ago, Google’s Chief Economist Dr. Hal Varian and his team released the results of their five month long research answering the question whether or not paid search ads cannibalize the traffic received by organic listings for identical keywords. There are many search managers and companies providing outsourced SEO answering the same question, and Google has tried to explain its effect on this study.

In a nutshell, the Google team found out that the paid search ads or Pay Per Click ads give its advertisers an 89% incremental lift in site visitors. This would be above and beyond the normal traffic you would expect from your organic listings. It seems to be supporting the existing conventional wisdom in the SEO industry and some previously conducted studies about the effect of paid advertising on brand terms and organic traffic.

The study was rigorous. Google collected data from 446 campaigns running from France, Germany, Great Britain, and the United States. They studied the campaigns that were paused after running the ads for a period of time and then deduced the estimated incremental impact of PPC ads on the total search volume. The only gripe you would probably see with this study is that more than half of the campaigns modeled were U.S. campaigns and were greatly dependent on data during the holiday period.

There are hints that the research is still ongoing and if it is true, then this gives people more time to see whether the 89% incremental lift holds true over the year. This should be informative for SEO companies like 365Outsource.com. 365Outsource.com offers advanced SEO and SEM services such as link building, video products, and Google Places SEO. Google Panda 2.3 Update is Now Live

Last week, it has been confirmed that Google has pushed out a small update into the Panda filter.

A Google spokesperson said, “We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users.” They added, “This most recent update is one of the roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.”

Google Panda is a filter added to Google’s search engine algorithm to produce better and relevant search engine results for its users. Panda updates are manually pushed out as opposed to a roll out people are thinking because of the recent complaints seen in various webmaster threads and forums.

Google said that “this update incorporates some new signals that help differentiate between higher- and lower-quality sites.” Because of this, some websites may have a higher ranking after this most recent update.

These are the previous Google Panda Updates rolled out before:

  • Panda Update 1.0: February 24, 2011
  • Panda Update 2.0: April 11, 2011 (about after 7 weeks)
  • Panda Update 2.1: May 10, 2011 (about after 4 weeks)
  • Panda Update 2.2: June 16, 2011 (about after 5 weeks)
  • Panda Update 2.3: July 23, 2011 (about after 5 weeks)

Google Update 2.1 and 2.3 are estimated dates. They might have rolled it out earlier or later than those dates but if you observe the updates, it seems that Google reruns its Panda algorithm about every month. This means some websites’ rankings may improve while some may see traffic drops.

The change that people are mostly hoping with every Panda update is for an improved site ranking when they first got hit by Panda. Social Networks Stealing Your Search traffic?

Your business website is finally getting the traffic it deserves after hours of SEO work with search optimization, identifying keywords, and hours of content writing and link building. And of course, all the link buttons to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social network sites are in place with all the pages because it’s the right thing to do. However, what you might not realize is that these social sites have their own strategy to taking away traffic from your business.

No matter how much interesting content you have on your site, visitors are already a loyal user of Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn and will find time to click the link button to see if any message, post or friend request is waiting for them in their profiles…and once they leave there’s little probability they will find their way back…concluding in your loss in the conversion game. This scenario can be tactfully managed.

It all relies on the choosing the right time and place where you locate these links buttons. Brands that have sites that are known for social success like Dell, practice this and their key strategy is obvious: no invitations to join Facebook, Twitter, of LinkedIn on home pages or landing page. The correct place would be to invite the visitors after a successful sale or sign-up which gives the whole process a chance to be accomplished and the objective done saving you from giving away your traffic to these social sites.

Benefits of Outsourcing SEO services

Outsourcing SEO services is a practice that has been done for years. Many SEO companies outsource SEO services and send over SEO specialists to help train people. SEO specialists are skilled in optimizing website for search engines. This means SEO specialists work on making a certain website available in the search engine results page and accessible to people.

SEO specialists use different techniques to ensure a website gets a first page listing in the results page of a search engine. Content management, white label SEO, and link building are examples of what SEO specialists do. SEO specialists also deal with the changing nature of search engines and use the proper SEO tools either to keep or improve a website’s ranking. A first page listing is important to website owners because a website listed on the first page listing of a search engine’s results page gets more traffic since people tend to get the information they need by just visiting the first ones listed.

Companies that outsource SEO services give an opportunity to other countries in learning how to optimize a website and discovering new ways to do it. By allowing these countries to optimize their local websites, businesses based on those countries flourish online. When there are more people visiting their websites, there are more possibilities for transactions.

Outsourcing SEO services to any country has a positive effect. It provides employment, increases online business opportunities and transactions, and makes it easier for search engine users to access information. Yet there are people who remain skeptical of outsourcing. The concerns of these people are understandable but they do not need to worry since SEO techniques follow a particular procedure and it does not clash with any language or cultural barrier.

Search engine users do not need to check every listing a search engine’s results page gives because SEO specialists make it convenient for users to effortlessly acquire information regardless where the user is from. It just goes to say that SEO companies who outsource their services are concerned in helping internet users and the services these companies provide transcend any race and age.

If website owners want to improve their ranking, then they can consult an SEO company. They have to be careful in choosing their company and make sure the company they get offers white label SEO, link building, and content management services to their clients.
